When you call a Termite Company to inspect your home, find out how which method they want to use.
Repellent Liquid Treatment.
This was the primary treatment until 1995. It is effective for the right structure, but will not stop termites in a structure with critical conditions conducive to termite infestations. Old fashion technology, but can be effective in the right hands.
Termite Bait Systems.
Bait Systems can be a life saver to many structures that could not be successfully treated with Liquid Repellents. Monitor termite bait stations, usually containing some type of cellulose to attrack termites, are place at intervals around your home to detect termite activity. When termite activity is discovered, the monitoring wood is replaced with the actual termite bait which will kill the termites.
Borate Treatments
are treatments applied directly to the wood framing with a sprayer. Borates make it almost impossible for termites to eat this wood. Borates have a long life, maybe up to 40 years. This treatment needs to be performed during the construction of your home to get the best results.
Non-Repellent Liquid Treatment
These liquids are termite colony killers. Termite workers can't detect this type of Termiticide. They continue to pass through the hidden barrier as they go back and forth from their nest to your home. Each pass accumulates more poison on there exoskeleton. Within a few days they will receive a lethal dose that they will spread throughout the colony as they bring back the needed food.
Some states now allow a Perimeter Defence Treatment with these types of Termiticides. Only the perimeter is treated and can be a good monitary choice for homeowners who want a preventive treatment.
