Pre-Construction Termite Treatment
Treating your home during construction is referred to as pre-treating or a termite pre-treatment. Placing a barrier of termiticide between your building and the soil where the termite colony is located will discourage termites from attacking your structure. A good pre treat will last you around 2 to 5 years before you will need to consider a post termite treatment. I have seen termites in very new structures after pretreatment, but that is usually not common. See what is in store for you down the road if you want to keep your structure free from termite infestation. Read Liquid Termite Treatment and Termite Bait Station Treatment.
Just before footing or slabs are poured the footing holes and slab areas must be treated at a rate of 1 gallon per each 10 sq. ft. The last phase of treatment is done after the building is finished before the landscaping is done. You must dig a trench 4 to 6 inches deep and 4 to 6 inches wide and put in 4 gallons of termiticide for each ten feet around the structure.
My advice to you is to treat any building on your property before it's built. A lot of states and counties make this pre-treatment mandatory specially in the Southern US were termite infestations are very heavy.
Most termite companies do this pre-treat service at a reasonable price. Try getting a few prices and see who offers the best guarantee. This treatment is sometime suggested by your building contractor and is always the best idea.
