Termite MD A Homeowners Guide to Termite Control

Termite Treatment Cost

Termite treatments are a once or twice in a lifetime purchase for most of us. So what do you really know about how much a termite treatment should cost? Do you know what price is a good price?

Here's a TermiteMD Tip- Any one can shop for the lowest price but remember every exterminator charges what they think their services are worth. Forget about shopping for the lowest price as your primary decision maker. Price is one factor, that's for sure, but here are other decision making factors. Read Cost of a Termite treatment.

Cost of Doing Business

Just like any business a lot goes into a company's expenses when they provide termite treatments, so the termite treatment cost can vary. Here's a little reminder about the cost of providing this termite treatment service to you and your property.

  • Cost of chemical or bait,
  • Equipment, supplies and up keep,
  • Labor and training,
  • Sales commission,
  • Business expenses, staff and office supplies,
  • Insurances,
  • Licenses
  • Taxes,
  • I'm sure I've left something out, but you get the idea.

- It should cost less to treat your home than it does to paint it. If it doesn't, your painter is working too cheap or your termite treatment price is too high.

Figure Your Cost For Post Termite Treatment

What is a linear foot? Termite Companies use linear feet (Ln. Ft.), the distance in ft. around the foundation of your home, for pricing. Here's is how to get a ball park price for a subterranean termite treatment for your home.

  • Measure the distance in feet around the foundation of your home. This will give you the total linear feet to be treated.
  • A good average price might be $4.00 to $7.50 and up per Ln. ft. (depends on where you live)
  • Example:
200 Ln. ft. x $5.00 per Ln. ft. = $1000 for the treatment.
This is a ball park figure to help you understand how the pricing process works.
  • Figures will be higher or lower depending on:
    • Which treatment type you choose (repellant, non-repellant, or bait system)
    • The Type of Guaranty you select,
    • And which Termite Company you call, large companies usually have more overhead expenses.
  • Also figure in the cost of your annual renewal. Ball park - between $100 and $200 should be about right.

TermiteMD Tip - Ask the price per linear foot to treat your home.

Figure the Cost For A Pre-Construction Termite Treatment

Building a new structure? A work shop, or a storage shed or a garage? You will need to treat the foundation before pouring concrete floors or footings.

  • This charge is almost always figured by how many square feet there are in a structure.
  • A good average price might be $.20 to $.45 per sq. ft.
  • Example:
    a garage measures 30 feet by 40 feet = 1200 sq. ft x $.30 per Sq. ft. = $360 for the treatment.

If You Do Not Have A Trusted Termite Company

  • Get 3 written estimates on any termite work, and if you are not familiar with the company ask for references.
  • A good recommendation from a neighbor is usually the sign of a good solid Termite Company and a satisfied customer.
  • Always ask for a written estimate on any work to be done.
So later you can make comparisons on treatment specs, guaranties, as well as price.
  • Price can be a big factor but never shop on price alone!  This is never the best idea.
  • Don't be in a hurry. Termites eat slow and take time to do real damage. You have time to make a informed decision.
